SCENT DETECTION CLASS
5 Weeks: $295+hst
Dogs have an incredible sense of smell. It is an instinctual desire for our dogs to smell EVERYTHING! (But you already know that, don’t you?) This is part of their genetics and essential for their ability to survive in the wild. Teaching our dogs the sport of Scent Detection is a fun, engaging and fantastic way to satisfy that desire while building a deeper bond with your dog and mentally tire them out. This class is designed for the family dog and taught in a relaxed and non-competitive manner. Anyone is welcome to join, both new and existing clients. No obedience needed or required!
Your course is 5 weeks in length. We will start by teaching you how this sport can be adapted to have fun for the family dog, what to be mindful of and introduce a designated odour (Winter Green Oil). We then proceed to teach your dog how to locate and give an indication when they have found the source of the odour using containers (boxes). Your last class will end with a “blind search” (you don't know which box will have the odour!) for some fun and see how far you have come.
When you practice nose work you will find your relationship with your dog grows stronger, you will tap into their problem solving skills to tire them out mentally and help build confidence in your dog. You will have FUN and no doubt a couple of laughs in this class.
*Please note: This class is for "dog friendly" dogs only and cannot accommodate dogs with any reactivity (unless you have had a private assessment first). This class is also not designed to set you up for SDDA or CKC competition (but it is a good start for imprinting odour).
