Scent Detection
Instinct Canine's Scent Detection Level 1 course will teach you and your dog the sport of scent detection in a fun and engaging way that will satisfy your dog's desire to work. It will also provide your dog with an opportunity to explore their natural genetics by using an ability essential for survival in the wild. Scent detection work is a way to build a deeper bond with your dog, while mentally stimulating their instincts.
Let's get sniffing and have fun!
Instinct Canine's Scent Detection Level 1 course is five weeks in length and located at our Burlington Training Facility. We will start by teaching you how this sport can be adapted to have fun for the family or companion dog, what to be mindful of, and introduce a designated odour (Winter Green Oil.) We will then teach your dog how to locate and give indication when they have found the source of the odour using containers (boxes.) The final class will end with a "blind search" where you and your dog do not know which box will have the odour. This is for engagement and to assess how far you have progressed!
Practicing scent work will foster a strong relationship between handler and dog. You will tap into your pet's problem solving skills, which help to build confidence in your dog and mentally stimulate them. Instinct Canine's Scent Level 1 Detection course is not only enjoyable, it is bound to provide a couple of laughs!
